As-salamu alaykum

Common Quranic Phrases

Ya ayyuhal ladheena amanu

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا

Meaning: "O you who have believed."

Usage: An address to believers in the Quran.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbil 'alameen

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Meaning: "All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds."

Usage: Opening of Surah Al-Fatiha, praising Allah.

Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem

الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

La ilaha illa Anta

لا إله إلا أنت

Meaning: "There is no deity except You."

Inna Allaha ala kulli shay’in Qadeer

إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Meaning: "Indeed, Allah is over all things competent."

Inna Allaha Ghafurur Raheem

إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Meaning: "Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."

Usage: Emphasizing Allah's forgiveness and mercy.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Meaning: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful."

Usage: Opening phrase of most Surahs; said before actions.

Subhanallahi amma yushrikoon

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

Meaning: "Glory be to Allah above what they associate with Him."

Usage: Declaring Allah's transcendence above shirk.

Wa ma adraka ma

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا

Meaning: "And what will make you know what...?"

Usage: Introducing something significant in the Quran.

Kullun Nafsin dha'iqatul mawt

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ

Meaning: "Every soul shall taste death."

Usage: Reminder of mortality.

Wa tawakkal 'ala Allah

وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ

Meaning: "And put your trust in Allah."

Usage: Encouraging reliance on Allah.

Inna ma'al 'usri yusra

إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

Meaning: "Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease."

Usage: Offering comfort during difficulties.

Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً

Meaning: "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good..."

Usage: Part of a supplication for good in this life and the hereafter.

Fabi ayyi ala'i Rabbikuma tukadhiban

فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Meaning: "So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?"

Usage: Refrain in Surah Ar-Rahman emphasizing gratitude.

Inna Allaha yuhibbul muhsineen

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Meaning: "Indeed, Allah loves the doers of good."

Usage: Encouraging excellence in deeds.

Wa qaala Rabbukum ud'ooni astajib lakum

وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ

Meaning: "And your Lord says, 'Call upon Me; I will respond to you.'"

Usage: Encouraging supplication to Allah.

Wa ma khalaqtul jinna wal insa illa liya'budoon

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ

Meaning: "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me."

Usage: Stating the purpose of creation.

Allahu la ilaha illa Hu

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ

Meaning: "Allah—there is no deity except Him."

Usage: Affirmation of monotheism.

Inna Allaha ma'as sabireen

إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ

Meaning: "Indeed, Allah is with the patient."

Usage: Encouraging patience and perseverance.

Wa'bud Rabbaka hatta ya'tiyakal yaqeen

وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ

Meaning: "And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death)."

Usage: Command to persist in worship.
